Fake-Out Thrummed Mittens
Real thrummed mittens are mittens that have a little piece of roving draped over every 3 or 4 stitches. Each piece is cut separately. The mitten feels fantastic--but to be honest, it's a pain to make. Enter the Fake-Out Thrummed Mittens. Made with one strand of thinner yarn and one strand of thicker yarn, they're as easy as Fair Isle. One skein of worsted-weight yarn and one skein of Rasta or another equally thick yarn. Needles of your choice for knitting in the round. Choose one size that’s the same as the ball-band recommendation for the thinner yarn, and another two sizes smaller for the cuff. Date: Sunday, January 19, from 1-4 p.m. Cost: $35.

Block of the month 2025: BIG Blocks!
Each year, for the past 20 years, the store has done a block of the month. Each year is completely different from the last, and this year is no exception! We’re trying something new to us again: Giant Blocks! Each month, you’ll complete a beautiful 20-inch quilt block, and by the end of the year, you’ll have a total of 12 unique blocks ready to assemble into a stunning quilt. This will not be an actual class; you’ll pick up your blocks in front of the store between 10 and 3 on the dates listed here. (We can also mail them if you prefer.) Pictured is one of the blocks. The rest are a surprise--but similar. The way to finish a quilt is to take it bit by bit. The block of the month provides the perfect way to do that! If you buy one kit, you’ll have a large-sized throw or twin (approx.. 68" x 90"). Buy two kits to double your number of blocks and make a king- or queen-sized bedspread, plus have enough extra blocks to make a few pillows! The first block is pictured here, to give you the idea of what’s to come. I’ll keep the rest as a surprise, to give you something to look forward to each month! Supplies: I’ll hand out packets each month as shown. Mark your calendars for the dates! Saturdays, Jan. 18, Feb. 15, Mar. 1, Apr. 5, May 3, June 7, July 12, Aug. 2, Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1, Nov. 22. Blocks will be out front for pickup between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. $100 per kit, includes blocks, sashing, and written pattern. Please contact us if you wish to have it mailed.
