2021 Block of the Month: Catisse

Has Cynthia gone off the deep edge? With cats pushing her all the way? This quilt looks nothing like any other block of the month we’ve ever had. We’ll use easy raw-edge applique to put a lot of cats onto a lot of blocks. The center is a giant leaping cat inspired by Matisse’s paper cutout, “Icarus.” Note that the heart of a cat is a cat! (And do you see the word “meow” in the stars?)

The colors for the whole quilt are also Matisse-inspired. Since we’re not going to be able to meet this year, here’s how the block of the month will work: You’ll buy all the fabrics up front, and each month, I’ll send out the instructions for that month’s block. If too many people sign up, I need to reorder fabric, and shipments are delayed, don’t worry. The blocks go together very quickly, and you’ll be able to catch up. You will not be getting your packet until closer to the end of the month as I put the kits together, so don't worry if you don't have an immediate notice for pickup! If you’ve never done raw-edge applique before, you may want to take the Zoom class. This quilt is very, very easy, and it’s a terrific introduction to raw-edge applique! 

Note that we have ordered backing fabric with colorful cats that coordinates nicely with this quilt. It is in limited quantity, so if you are interested, please let us know, and we can reserve it for you! First come, first served.

Cost: If you want the pattern only, choose "class only." Your cost will be $24.99. If you want the pattern plus the fabrics, choose "class plus materials." Your cost will be $125 and will include the pattern, the fabrics for the top, and the binding. Mailing the kit is available in the United States only and will cost $15.00. Please call the shop if you would like to have your kit mailed, and we'll make arrangements for that.

You’ll need to buy your fusible material separately. I used EZ steam lite, which I have available in the shop, with more on backorder.

The quilt as it is measures approximately 96" square. You can easily add borders to make it king sized.

Supplies: You’ll pick up the fabric in advance, and then receive that month’s handouts each month. I will send you an e-mail when your packet is ready. You may call the shop at 814-238-4151 to purchase this block of the month.
