Knitting 101
Want to learn how to knit? Or need a refresher after many years of neglecting your knitting? Take our beginning-knitting course. You’ll learn how to cast on, knit, and purl, and you’ll start a scarf. $38 Supplies: Select your supplies at the first class as part of the learning experience.

Knitting 102: A “quick-knit” project of your choice.
You know how to knit a garter-stitch scarf, which is the place to start. But now it’s time to move to the next level. Choose your next project from among several options: the Quick-Knit hat, the Big, Yummy Cowl, the Juliette Scarf, or the Brooklyn Tweed Scarf. Let’s get you used to purling, double-pointed needles, and a little pattern reading. $32 Supplies: Pattern from options listed, appropriate yarn and needles.

Any Sweater
Everyone loves sweaters, but they’re often a bit intimidating. If you take them piece-by-piece, you’ll be successful. Cynthia loves sweaters, and she’ll help you through the process with enthusiasm. This class is for everyone, from new beginners knitting a simple raglan sweater, through advanced knitters working on cables or Fair Isle. $48 Supplies: Talk with us about patterns and yarn before class.

Baby Surprise Jacket
Everyone loves this darling little sweater with the mitered corners. Making it is a mysterious process: You will knit a shape that looks like a large potato chip. Fold it, and voila—a sweater. $32 Supplies: (Pattern: Available as a separate leaflet, or in the book Knitting Workshop), and appropriate yarn and needles.

Baby Top-Down Socks
Our shop is a little unusual, as all of you know. One of the things that has made us different is that we teach toe-up socks. But most patterns are for top-down socks. Maybe it’s time to learn the “normal” way, just to have another tool in your toolbox? Come join Eleanor to knit top down on a pair of baby socks. $38 Supplies: Ann Norling Pattern 26, 175 yards DK-weight yarn, size 6 double-pointed needles.

Beaded Gloves
Always wanted to try beads in your knitting but were a little nervous about it? Try these fingerless mitts! You’ll have a pretty, yet practical project for your first test run. (And they make great gifts, because the sizing is so flexible.) $28 Supplies: One Skein book, two skeins of Cashmerino DK yarn, one tube size 6 beads, and size 2 or 3 needles. (Choose from our of high-quality Japanese beads!)

Beaded Knitted Earrings
These beautiful earrings will reflect and sparkle from the light of the summer sun! No one can resist Swarovski crystals. Let Cindy help you get addicted. $25 Supplies: Talk to Cindy the night of class, and she’ll help you choose supplies. Bring along size 0000 needles if you have them.

Block by Block
Nicky Epstein is a clever designer and she has created something amazing: a book of block patterns. Each block is better than the next and many have a nice little challenge. We’re make a portion of these blocks as a 5-month project, working with chapters 2-6. Each month, we will take a different section of the book and work on a few blocks, starting at the first block of each chapter. Cynthia’s plan is to run this class continuously, eventually working through all the blocks in the book. $48 Supplies: Knitting Block by Block book, any yarn of from sport to worsted.

Brioche
Brioche knitting forms a wonderful, double-sided, dense yet springy fabric that is perfect for making warm and cozy knits. Cynthia Mazzant will help you learn this new technique and use it to make the yummy project of your choice from the fabulous Knitting Brioche book. You’ll love it! $38Supplies: Knitting Brioche book, talk to Cynthia the first night about your project and to choose appropriate yarn and needles with her.

Butterfly Shawl
Great Adirondack puts the most captivating sparkles and colors into their yarns! This gorgeous shawl—shaped like a butterfly—comes kitted in many colors, each more beautiful than the rest. Catkin
Ever since she saw this pretty capelet, Cynthia has been wanting to make it. In fact, there are rumors that we ordered in the Madeleine Tosh yarns just so she could! Cynthia will take you through all the complexities of the pattern. $38 Supplies: Catkin pattern, 2 skeins of Madeleine Tosh, or another equivalent amount of a fingering yarn, appropriate needles. (Bring several sizes to class for swatching.)

Darn It!
Darned socks last twice as long as other socks, which is a real money saver and a good way to make a favorite sock last. Best of all, no special sewing skills are needed for darning. $28 Supplies: sock that needs to be darned (one that is thin, rather than one with a hole is easier to learn on), sewing thread to match sock, a light bulb (not the twirly kind) to use as a darning egg OR we carry darning eggs. Chris will supply darning needles.

Dropped-Stitch Scarf
Our new favorite designer is Daniel Yuhas. He always does something clever and fun! This scarf is no exception. Look at it and try to figure out how it’s made—or have Connie show you in this class! $32 Supplies: Phineas pattern, worsted-weight yarn of your choice. (Connie can help you choose yarn the day of class.)

Entrelac Hat
Eleanor is an entrelac addict, and if you’ve been wanting to learn entrelac, join her for this hat! Entrelac is just a little easier done in the round, so a hat is a great beginning project! $38 Supplies: Entrée to Entrelac book (joined-points hat), appropriate yarn and needles.

Estonian Mittens
Nancy Bush’s knitting patterns are renowned for their incomparably beautiful design. Do you want to knit mittens that Nancy designed? Here’s your chance! Choose a couple of colors of Jamieson’s, and work the amazing patterns from Estonia. You need to have done Fair Isle before taking this class (our headband class is great for that). $38 Supplies: Folk Knitting in Estonia, by Nancy Bush, Jamieson’s, 2 each of 2 contrasting colors, size 1 DPN.

Fair-Isle Headband or Hat
You can do almost anything with the classic Fair-Isle pattern. In this class, we’ll do a headband or hat (your choice). By the end of the night you will be almost finished. $25 Supplies: Your choice of Really Clear headband or hat pattern. Yarns and needles as specified. If you are doing the hat, please make the ribbing before class so you can get started on Fair Isle that same night.

Fair-Isle Socks
Eleanor wants to give Fair Isle a little challenge—by making it little! Come to class with the top of a sock or the toe started, and she’ll start you working on Fair Isle for either the top or foot. (Hint: Use 2 self-striping sock yarns for some amazing color work without making you break a sweat!) $25 Supplies: You must already know how to knit a sock. Bring your pattern, your sock yarn, and the beginning of your sock (either finished toe or finished top ribbing) to class. You need at least 2 colors of sock yarn, either solid or self-striping.

Felted Clogs
Fiber Trends felted clogs are one of the most popular knitting patterns ever. The clogs are super-comfortable and super-cute! Once you get started, you’ll make a pair for everyone in your family! $35 Supplies: Felted Clog AC-33, appropriate yarn and needles.

Floofy Skirt
Abbey made a trip to New England and came back with a skirt pattern. She had seen it on a few people and was instantly a member of the Floofy Groupies! She knitted up this skirt, a now when she wears it, she can’t walk more than about 2 yards between compliments. Become a Floofy Groupie with Abbey! $38 Supplies: Floofy Skirt pattern (we have licensed it and have it at our shop), any yarn you like. Please choose your yarn ahead of time so we can make sure to have enough for you by the class. It is fun to use more than one yarn for this skirt!

Gelato Bag
The Gelato bag is as tempting as a bowl of ice cream and as practical as a Swiss Army knife. It is a miniature purse that is perfect for carrying keys and a wallet, when you just want to grab those important things and be able to keep them together. Abbey will teach you all you need to know about knitting up and felting this great little purse! $32 Supplies: Gelato Bag pattern, 420 yards worsted-weight yarn, size 11 16” & 24” circular needles, size 11 double-pointed needles.

Intarsia Hat
Cynthia’s favorite kind of knitting is intarsia, but most of the patterns out there are either too juvenile or too complex. Let’s start here, with one of her Really Clear patterns! Intarsia is messy and fun! $28 Supplies: Diamond Head pattern, appropriate yarn and needles.

Lindsay’s Perfect Mitts
Lindsay wanted simple, fingerless mitts that were ribbed the whole way and that had a separate thumb gusset. Although they were probably out there—somewhere!—she could not find any. The Really Clear Pattern was born. In the meantime, Eleanor has made about a million of them too. Let her show you what all the excitement is about with this adaptable, easy pattern. $38 Supplies: Perfect Mitts pattern, size 5 double-pointed needles (you might want two pairs to work on both mitts at once), 200 yards of sport, DK, or light-worsted weight yarn. A little bit of waste yarn and a tapestry needle. Stitch Keepers keep you together between sessions.

Maria Cowl or Maude Lace Scarf
Cynthia has designed an easy lace pattern based on a Japanese stitch. She loved it so much that she made several cowls and also began a scarf. Take your pick of projects! Both classes will meet the first night, and the second night is for the shawl people only, to learn how to graft. $25 for cowl class, $32 for shawl class. Supplies: Maria and Maude Pattern. For cowl; 100 yards worsted-weight yarn, size 9 or 10 16” circular needle. For scarf: any gauge yarn in amount needed to make scarf desired size, needles two sizes bigger than yarn calls for.
Wednesday, June 6, 6-9 p.m. for cowl class, OR Wednesdays, June 6 & 27, 6-9 p.m. for shawl or scarf. (We will sew the pieces together the second night.)

Mitered Squares
Mitered squares are versatile! For this class, Cynthia will suggest different projects that use mitered squares, and then we’ll start to work. Choose between a hat, scarf, or poncho. Mitered squares are easy and fun, but look difficult. We’ll never tell! $28 Supplies: Mitered squares project of your choice in consultation with Cynthia or Kim.

No-Fail Lace Scarf
Lace can be confusing the first time you try it. This pattern is designed to make it easy. You will easily memorize the pattern, which will soon allow you to knit without looking at the instructions. Learn how to read lace instructions, how to make an SSK and K2tog, how to make a yarn over, and how to fix the lace if you have a problem. Let’s take the mystery out of lace! $25 Supplies: No-Fail pattern, appropriate yarn and needles.

Papageno Neckerchief
Daniel Yuzen has created a nice, little neckerchief that you can keep in your purse for those air-conditioned restaurants this summer. Knitting scarves is extra enjoyable—no sizing needed! $38 Supplies: Pattern and appropriate yarn and needles.

Reversible Cabled Mobius
Cynthia wanted a take-along project—something that would look good, but if you lost your place, it really wouldn’t matter. She designed this mobius to be extremely adaptable—make it long, short, even make a cowl! You’ll learn how to do reversible cables the first night, and then to graft in garter stitch the second. $32 Supplies: Mobius pattern, appropriate yarn and needles.

Special Day Silk Hat
Make this hat for a brand-new baby that is coming, or make it and put it back. There is always a baby on the way! This hat is sweet with a ruffle on the brim and a little ribbon that you can either purchase or knit as i-cord. $32 Supplies: Baby Beanies book, appropriate yarn and needles. (We recommend Cascade Pima Cotton.)

Toe-Up Socks
Socks are perfect projects for doctor’s offices and other wait times. And the sock yarns are great fun these days—colorful, self-striping, and soft. At the first session, you’ll start the toe, and at the second session, you’ll do the heel. The last session is to finish up! $38 Supplies: Toe-up sock pattern, sock yarn, size 2 double-pointed needles (2 pairs will make your life easier), stitch holder, and we highly recommend a set of Stitch Keepers to hold everything together between knitting sessions.

Twined Knitting
Twined knitting is a traditional Scandinavian technique in which you knit with two strands of yarn and twist the strands between stitches. Twined knitting forms a fabric that is denser and warmer, making it perfect for winter weather accessories. Learn this technique with Cynthia Mazzant and choose your own project. $36 Supplies: Twined Knitting book, and appropriate yarn and needles for the project you select.

Verdaia Shawl
This intermediate pattern will help you learn to create knitted lace with a focus on reading charts. It’s a beautiful pattern that starts at the top and increases as you go. You can make it a scarf or shawl size using fingering or sock yarns. $38. Supplies: Verdaia pattern, 400 yards of fingering-weight yarn, size 5 needle, stitch markers, cable needle.

Wrap Me Up
This gorgeous wrap is the perfect project for a ten-month study of stitch patterns. Each month, we’ll get together and knit one or two easy squares. Before you know it, the wrap will be finished and you’ll have learned lots of new skills along the way! Cynthia, who never makes any pattern more than once, has made 3! $48 Supplies: Wrap Me Up pattern, yarn as required. (We love Kureyon or Silk Garden and have seen gorgeous wraps from mixed colors!). Beads. More experienced? Try sock yarn!

Zimmermania
We’ve been doing a Zimmermania class for the past 3 years. This year, it’s time to change it up a little! We’re working out of the book Knit One, Knit All. The first month, we will make the hat that’s on the cover. From there, we will vote on projects for the year. There are many choices, all with Elizabeth Zimmermann’s clever construction!
$60 Supplies: Book, worsted-weight yarn for first project. (Cynthia is using Silk Garden.) Please be sure to get a voting form when you sign up, and be sure to bring your filled-out voting form to class the first night.
