Enjoy a weekend of inspiration, learning, and relaxation!
Join Stitch Your Art Out for a three-day, two-night retreat at Lake Raystown
Conference Center.
Leave your troubles at home
while you enjoy delicious meals, stitch with friends, relax on a nature walk,
and cherish the opportunity to have three days just for you.
Lake Raystown is close to
home for easy travel and more stitching time, but you will feel as if you have
been transported to another world.
Join us for a break from
the everyday to do what you love best for a three-day weekend!
Imagine having an entire three-day weekend all to yourself
at a beautiful lakeside resort. All your meals will be provided, so you won’t
have to cook. Housekeepers will tidy your room each morning, so you won’t have
to clean. Instead, what you get to do is spend three days stitching with friendly
people!
Try something new and take a class or two; or bring along
a project of your own for some uninterrupted stitching time.
This is an all-inclusive package—your lodging, meals
(except Friday lunch), classes, and a super goodie bag to keep you inspired and
energized all weekend—are included in one fee.
Read on to learn what your weekend will be like....
FRIDAY, APRIL 27 Arrive at Lake Raystown Resort and Conference
Center anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. If you arrive in the morning, you may work on an unfinished object of your own.
At
2:00 p.m., you may continue working on what you brought, or join us as
Cynthia and Kim will get you started with your choice of two classes:
Choice 1: Clothesline Bag (Quilting/Sewing Class): Use your sewing machine to make a coiled and wrapped tote that is sturdy
and stylish. Choose your favorite Bali pop or other strip set. Make fabric
handles to match or choose a leather handle for a polished look. A lining with
pockets will keep you organized.
Choice 2: Mihaela
Weekend Cowl (knitting). Mihaela (the designer of this project) named it a Weekend Cowl, but we think of it as a little scarf. It is super cute! We have kits only, in earthy colors in your choice of blue, red, or neutral. Once you have made one and have the pattern, you will probably keep making more in all all kinds of colors! Kim is modeling the blue one in this photo. Cynthia is working on a red version for you to see soon. The neutral version is... neutral!
At 6:00 enjoy a delicious dinner, and then work for another hour or so if you wish.
After 8:00 p.m., enjoy relaxing post-dinner
party hosted by Cynthia and Kim.
SATURDAY, APRIL 28 Join us for
breakfast between 8:00-9:00 a.m.
Then at 9:00, choose a class or work on your own.
Choice 1: Judy Niemeyer’s Weeping Willow Quilt Judy Niemeyer's elegant designs look impressively challenging, but she uses
techniques to make them much easier than you would think. Use two packs of Bali Pops and
foundation piecing to create this beautiful design.
Choice 2: Spiral Crochet Crochet in rounds with 2, 3, or more colors. This technique is simple to
learn, but looks complex and interesting. Practice the technique with different
combinations by making potholders, put two together to make a pillow--or maybe you'd even like to start a
beautiful circle vest.
Lunch is served
at 12:00 p.m. After that, you might wish for a little stretch. Choose to take a
walk, or take a short field trip to the Huntington Quilt Guild
show.
At 2:00, we will reconvene for your choice of two projects:
Choice 1: Scalloped beaded necklace (knitting) This pretty beaded and knit necklace is as fun to wear as it is easy to knit.
It's a simple garter stitch pattern with slipped beads, but has a striking
presence. It is one of those rare knitting projects--something that goes so quickly, you may actually be able to wear it home!
Choice 2: Locker-hooked Bracelet (locker hooking) Locker hooking is a simple technique for creating a compelling texture. Use
Himalaya Yarn's recycled silk ribbon to create a this earthy cuff.
Dinner is served
at 6:00 p.m.
Enjoy
show-and-tell after dinner. Bring along something you made from one of
Stitch Your Art Out's fabrics, yarns, or classes to share with the
group. We can testify that there's nothing as fun as seeing what others
have made!
SUNDAY, APRIL 29 The workroom will open at 9:00 a.m. At 10:00, choose a slow-paced Sunday morning class or work on your own.
Crocheted Stranded Necklace Try this super-simple introduction to beaded crochet. If you can make a
chain, then you can make this delicately beautiful necklace. Simple jewelry
techniques will provide a polished finish. You'll be able to wear it home!
Enjoy a delicious
brunch at 11:00 a.m.
Choose a Sunday afternoon
class that will begin at 1:00, or work on your own.
Choice 1: Zentangles Free your mind and find a new outlet for creative relaxation. No drawing
experience is necessary at all. You'll find new levels of creative as you draw
simple combinations of lines and curves as you create an interesting
design.
Choice 2: Felted Soap After a wonderfully rewarding weekend, try one last little class. Learn how
to wrap wool roving around soap to make felted soap. Perfect for gifts or as a
special treat for yourself.
Return home
feeling refreshed and energized!
